Budzinski Hosts Press Event, Focuses on Social Security and Medicare

“If Regan Deering is elected, seniors will bear the burden.”

Springfield, IL – Today, Nikki Budzinski, candidate for Congress in Illinois’ 13th congressional district, held a press conference in Springfield with Don Todd, President of the Illinois Alliance for Retired Americans and over 30 workers, seniors, and supporters.

The event focused on Republican Regan Deering’s recent announcement that she supports making cuts to Social Security and Medicare, which are critical programs that workers and seniors pay into their entire lives.

Nikki Budzinski made the following statement: “Wealthy heiress Regan Deering says she will cut Social Security and Medicare benefits. In Congress, I will oppose any cuts to Social Security and Medicare seniors have paid into and earned.”

Don Todd, President of the Illinois Alliance for Retired Americans, made the following statement: “Every retiree deserves the peace of mind that Social Security and Medicare brings. Currently, 21% of married couples and 45% of single persons rely on Social Security for 90% or more of their income.”

These are programs that we paid for and will fight to keep.  If Regan Deering is elected, seniors will bear the burden.  She clearly stated in her interview that she supports making cuts to Social Security and Medicare through “means testing.”
