A member of the U.S. House Agriculture Committee is optimistic that year-round, nationwide E-15 could soon be a reality.

Illinois congresswoman Nikki Budzinski says the recent EPA waiver allowing nationwide summertime sales is a good sign.

“With this waiver coming out of the administration, we know they’re paying attention to this as well.”  She says, “So, I’m going to remain hopeful that we’re going to be able to get it across the finish line.”

She tells Brownfield the next step is for Congress to pass the Nationwide Consumer and Fuel Retailer Choice Act.

“Which is the legislation that would codify year-round nationwide E-15.”  She says, “It’s bipartisan. This is something that I think Republicans and Democrats can come together to support our growers to get it done.”

Budzinski says utilizing higher blends of biofuels saves consumers money, reduces dependence on foreign oil, cuts carbon emissions, and supports markets for U.S. farmers.

Currently only eight Midwestern states have been approved waivers for the ability to sell year-round E-15.
