Nikki Budzinski Announces “Women with Nikki” Committee

“In Congress I’ll always fight to make sure that a woman can make her own health care decisions without the government and politicians telling them what they can’t do.”

Springfield, IL – On Thursday, Nikki announced the rollout of a coalition of “Women with Nikki” that are working to engage and turnout female voters in Illinois’ 13th Congressional District this fall. Led by Springfield Community Advocate Jen DeJong and Cheryl Budzinski, Nikki’s mother, the group has held over 30 postcard parties, engaged with over 10,000 female voters, and has over 200 active members.

Nikki Budzinski made the following statement: “I am motivated by this incredible group of women across the district. Women’s reproductive health is under attack by people like my extremist opponent, Regan Deering. One way we fight back is by electing more pro-choice women to positions of power. In Congress I’ll always fight to make sure that a woman can make her own health care decisions without the government and politicians telling them what they can’t do.”

Jen DeJong and Cheryl Budzinski made the following statement: “We are proud to lead this important group to engage, mobilize, and turn out women in record numbers to vote for Nikki. Nikki will be the first woman ever elected to Congress and she will get there with a coalition of strong women.”

Joanna Webb-Gauvin, Director of Political and Legislative for AFSCME Council 31, made the following statement: “Nikki will bring the voice of women in organized labor to Congress, which is a voice we desperately need. She has the total support of the labor movement and of working women across Central and Southern Illinois.”

Barb Brumfield, the President of Southwestern Illinois Democratic Women, “Too many women have stood on the sideline, taking for granted the rights that women have earned. The Supreme Court and the Republicans have set us back 49 years after overturning Roe v. Wade. Electing people like Regan Deering who might side with the most extreme factions of the Republican Party on choice would only make that worse.”

Chaundra Bishop, Urbana City Council Woman made the following statement: “We need to elect more bold, pro choice women to positions of power that will fight for communities like Urbana on this issue. I know Nikki will walk the walk and be a tireless advocate for choice.”
